MEET THE FOUNDER

I’m Francesca Cottle, Founder and Director of Bottega Terra. I was born and raised in Puglia, Italy, and now live with my family on the South Coast of NSW, Australia. Puglia—stretched along the heel of Italy’s boot and framed by two seas—continues to shape the colours, traditions and spirit of Bottega Terra.
I created Bottega Terra to share with Australian homes the ceramic traditions I grew up with: tactile, expressive pieces made slowly and by hand in Puglia.
Puglia has a raw, elemental beauty and a deep respect for craft. In a world of increasing automation, its workshops and generations-old techniques offer a different rhythm—one grounded in human touch, character and the pleasure of everyday rituals.
As Bottega Terra evolves, I hope you’ll join us in discovering the craftsmanship, stories and enduring beauty of Southern Italy.
My hope is that Bottega Terra brings a sense of slow, considered living into the home. Through handmade ceramics and objects with character, I want to celebrate the small rituals of everyday life—the shared meal, the morning coffee and the pieces we choose to live with for years to come.

HANDCRAFTED IN ITALY

Our signature ceramics are made by hand in Southern Italy by artisans working with traditional techniques. Small variations in form, glaze, brushwork and texture are part of their character, giving each piece a distinctive quality that reflects the hand of its maker.

LONGEVITY OF OUR CERAMICS

Ceramics have been part of daily life for centuries because they are both beautiful and enduring. We choose pieces intended to be used often and lived with over time—objects that can become part of everyday rituals, shared tables and, with care, future memories.

SUSTAINABILITY

We value a slower approach to making and buying: small-batch craftsmanship, durable materials and objects designed to be kept rather than quickly replaced. We work with traditional ceramic production and favour pieces whose character comes from the making process itself.

OUR SIGNATURE

Bottega is the Italian word for a small artisan workshop—a place where knowledge is carried through practice and objects are shaped by hand. These workshops remain an important part of life in many Italian towns and villages, preserving techniques and traditions that have become increasingly rare elsewhere. Terra means earth, ground and land. For us, it speaks to materiality, place and the connection between craft and its origins. Together, Bottega Terra reflects what we want to bring to Australian homes: distinctive, enduring pieces with a sense of place, made or sourced with care and chosen for the character they bring to everyday life.
